Genetic variability of Passiflora spp. from commercial fields in the Federal District, Brazil Ciência Rural
Castro,Ana Paula Gomes de; Faleiro,Fábio Gelape; Carvalho,Daniel Diego Costa; Fonseca,Kenia Gracielle da; Vilela,Marina de Fátima; Junqueira,Nilton Tadeu Vilela; Cares,Juvenil Enrique.
This study aimed to characterize the genetic variability in commercial accessions of passion fruit from the Federal District, Brazil, by RAPD markers. Genetic analyses were done with leaf samples of 30 accessions. DNA samples were amplified by RAPD technique, and respective markers converted into a binary matrix, from which the genetic distances between the accessions were estimated. Clustering analyis based on genetic distances allowed to detect a wide range of genetic variabillity among the accessions of sour passion fruit, and to separate them from the two sweet passion fruit. The graphical positioning of 'BRS Ouro Vermelho' confirms its potential to improve the genetic variability of commercial varieties of sour passion fruit. Dispersal of genetic...

ABSTRACT: Over several past centuries, specific plant populations have been carefully selected to filter strains with higher agronomic performance. Genetic variability is most essential for successful selection. The Passiflora genus offers great inter- and intra-specific variability. This study aimed to evaluate the physical characteristics of the genotypes of the elite passion fruit (Passiflora alata) for selection purpose. We considered the physical traits of fruit mass, longitudinal and equatorial diameters, peel thickness and color, and pulp mass and volume without and with seeds and pulp yield. The sources of variation for the analysis of variance included the fruits of 8 elite genotypes, with 3 replications, whose means were compared by Tukey’s test...

Identification of plantlet genetic origin in polyembryonic mango (Mangifera indica, L.) cv. Rosinha seeds using RAPD markers Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Cordeiro,Maria Cristina Rocha; Pinto,Alberto Carlos Queiróz; Ramos,Víctor Hugo Vargas; Faleiro,Fábio Gelape; Fraga,Lilia Marta Santos.
Mango can be propagated by seeds or by grafting. For commercial purpose, grafting is the most appropriate method because it maintains the genetic characters from the propagated variety. To obtain grafted mango it is important to use polyembryonic varieties as rootstock since they produce a zygotic and many nucellar plantlets. The nucellar plantlets maintain the genetics of the mother-plant thus, are preferred for grafting since they supposedly give more uniformity to the orchard. In general, nurserymen use the most vigorous plantelet to graft, believing that they are nucellar. But, orchard disuniformities on height and yield are very common among mango trees of commercial orchards in Northeast region. The objective of this paper was to identify the...

RAPD markers linked to a block of genes conferring rust resistance to the common bean Genet. Mol. Biol.
Faleiro,Fábio Gelape; Vinhadelli,Wender Santos; Ragagnin,Vilmar Antonio; Corrêa,Ronan Xavier; Moreira,Maurilio Alves; Barros,Everaldo Gonçalves de.
Rust, caused by the fungus Uromyces appendiculatus, may cause a significant loss to common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) yield. RAPD markers tightly linked to the resistance genes may be used in breeding programs to aid the development of rust-resistant bean cultivars. In this sense, the objective of the present work was to identify RAPD markers linked to a rust resistance gene block present in the cultivar Ouro Negro. Two hundred and fourteen F2 individuals from a cross between the resistant cultivar Ouro Negro and the susceptible cultivar US Pinto 111 were inoculated with a mixture of eight races of U. appendiculatus. The segregation ratio obtained suggested that resistance is monogenic and dominant. Bulked segregant analysis was used in conjunction with...

Actually mango (Mangifera indica, L.) is considered one of the largest Brazilian fruitbusiness for the export market. Cultivar selection having high fruit quality is a fundamental step to obtain excellent results in this business. A mango breeding program based on intervarietal hybridization may produce new improved cultivars for mango growers. Mango hybrids have been obtained by controlled or open crosses. In the last one, it is important to identify the male parent because it is useful for the genetic cultivar history, thus it is important for planning further improvements. This work presents a parentage test using among others parameters RAPD (Random amplified Polymorphic DNA) markers to estimate the male parent of the selected hybrids in an open cross...

Costa,Anne Pinheiro; Pires,Márcio de Carvalho; Peixoto,José Ricardo; Blum,Luiz Eduardo Bassay; Faleiro,Fábio Gelape.
Abstract This study developed and validated a standard area diagram set (SADs) for severity assessment of bacterial spot (Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. ) in passifloraefruits of yellow passion fruit (Passiflora edulis). The SADs consisted of eight severity levels (1%; 3%; 5%; 10%; 21%; 38%; 65%; and 80%). For its validation, 20 raters, who initially estimated the disease severity without the aid of the SADs, were divided into groups (G1 and G3, inexperienced; G2 and G4, experienced). Subsequently, G1 and G2 performed the second evaluation without the proposed SADs, and G3 and G4 completed the second evaluation using the proposed SADs. The accuracy and precision of the assessments were determined by simple linear regression and by the Lin’s concordance...
